Djelic told the Beta news agency that he met yesterday with French Minister for European Affairs Pierre Lellouche and discussed economic cooperation between the two countries, adding that they agreed that France can increase its role in Serbia when it comes to the infrastructure, energy and transport sectors.
Lellouche reiterated that cooperation with the Hague tribunal is the key condition for enabling Serbia’s progress towards joining the EU, Djelic said.
He said that Lellouche endorsed Serbia’s visa liberalisation reforms, underlining that France firmly supports the idea that Serbia must join the Schengen ‘white list’ early in 2010.
Djelic reiterated that before the end of September deadline determined by the European Commission, Serbia will be fully prepared to join the Schengen ’white list’ from January 1 next year.
Djelic stressed the importance of meeting with Lellouche at the beginning of his term in office, voicing his hope that in the upcoming months Serbia and France will sign a strategic partnership.
