Belgrade/Cairo, Aug 26, 2009 –Following a with meeting his Egyptian counterpart Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic said they agreed that successful cooperation points to new opportunities that can be developed before 2011, adding that with that aim a programme on cooperation will be signed.
Bradic, who is on an official visit to Egypt, told the Tanjug news agency that Hosni is one of the most influential people in Egypt’s cultural world of and a candidate for UNESCO director general.
This is important bearing in mind the amount of Serbia’s cultural heritage listed on the world heritage list, said Bradic, adding his belief that if Hosni is elected to the post, Serbia will have his full support.
Speaking about activities planned to take place before 2010 Bradic particularly emphasised the Days of Serbian Culture in Egypt, which will be conceived in line with the Ministry of Culture’s plans.
Serbian visual and performance arts, as well as cinematography and literature will be presented, Bradic explained, noting that this will enable him to start talks about translating Serbian literary works into Arabic and the works of contemporary Egyptian writers into Serbian.
He said it was agreed that, apart from Serbia’s satisfactory political and diplomatic relations with Egypt, there is room for broadening cultural cooperation.
We believe that at upcoming meetings in Cairo we will have the opportunity to define a more detailed plan of future activities, said Bradic, who will conclude his visit to Egypt on August 28.
