In an interview with the Tanjug news agency Mrkonjic said that around 40 different branches of industry are engaged in the construction of one square metre of a flat, adding that each will greatly benefit from this project, although the price per square metre will be no more than €500.
We are trying to solve the housing issues of a number of our citizens who cannot afford to buy flats, but will this way be able to rent the flat they live in and gradually purchase it because each monthly rent will in fact be an instalment. That way one day they will have purchased those flats, he explained.
Mrkonjic invited banks operating in Serbia to take part in this profitable business that can be concluded within a year.
He noted that the precondition for the programme is that the state immediately joins the project since it has the capability, producers of building materials and workers for the job.
We will also solve a number of other issues because the construction of 20,000 flats in Belgrade can provide employment for 100,000 workers, he concluded.
