Protocol on financial assistance to Belgrade Police

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas today signed a Protocol enabling the City Assembly to allocate RSD 200 million to the Belgrade Police Administration.

Dacic specified that the funds are intended for equipping the Belgrade Police Administration, announcing that a report on how the funds are used will be made public.
He stressed that police efficiency and capability will be boosted, noting that Belgrade must be a city where the safety of people and property is guaranteed and corruption and crime reduced to a minimum.
The Minister noted that following "Universiade 2009" a number of surveillance cameras remained installed in the city in order to help increase safety.
Mayor Djilas voiced his pleasure at the cooperation between the city and its police over the past 12 months, stressing that the city authorities cannot secure well-deserved higher salaries for police officers, but can help them by setting aside funds, as on this occasion.
He noted the importance of increasing safety in schools with the help of video surveillance cameras and school police officers, adding that community services have started removing graffiti and threatening messages in the capital.
Speaking about the text of the agreement on police cooperation with the EULEX mission in Kosovo-Metohija, Dacic noted that it has been harmonised on the Serbian side and voiced his expectation that the document will soon be signed.
It is necessary to sign a specific kind of protocol on operational police cooperation, as well as to continue with all previous protocols and agreements signed with UNMIK, as envisaged by the decision of the European Commission regarding visa liberalisation, explained the Deputy Prime Minister.
He said it is important that this will take place in line with Resolution 1244 and the UN Secretary General’s report, which mentions the six-item plan, adding that the protocol concerns police matters such as the joint fight against corruption, crime, terrorism and trafficking in drugs, weapons and people.
Dacic reiterated that this agreement is important for the peace, stability and safety of the province, as well as other parts of Serbia, adding that cooperation has so far been restricted to daily operational issues.
