Jagodina can count on government support

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated today in Jagodina that, as soon as the government revises its budget this October, it will set aside RSD 50 million for the construction of infrastructure within the Jagodina industrial zone.
At a press conference, held at the Jagodina City Assembly, Djelic pointed out that good infrastructure is the main precondition for economic development and the provision of new jobs.
The government will support all those towns and municipalities which are ready to take responsibility and work hard on solving citizens’ problems, he said.
The Minister announced that, apart from a water park, several new places aimed at helping make young people more interested in science and technology, will open in Jagodina in the next two years
The government will make efforts to evenly distribute EU assistance, including loans provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, so that Jagodina receives money towards the realisation of its projects.
Djelic reiterated that it is in Serbia’s interest to join the EU as soon as possible.
He said that this year is a difficult one concerning the question of European integration because of the economic crisis, unfinished work related to the Treaty of Lisbon and the fact that European Parliament elections were held.
He said that the €100 million provided by the European Commission to Serbia as non-repayable assistance shows that the EU wishes Serbia to continue reforms.
The first tranche of €50 million will become available in September and the other €50 million at the beginning of next year, when we will be able to expect a further €200 million as macro-financial support, a sum concerning which negotiations are going on presently, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Djelic said that 80% of the transport Corridor 10 is being constructed from European funds, adding that it would not be possible to build new infrastructure without European support.
He said that the advantages of European integration should not be magnified, nor should we have any illusions concerning it, because these are matters determined by joint interest alone.
It is in Serbia’s interests to join the EU just as the EU has certain interests in Serbia becoming a member, said Djelic.
