Djelic hands over donation to children’s shelter

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and head of the Universiade Belgrade organising committee Bozidar Djelic today handed over a donation consisting of 3,600 food parcels to a shelter for homeless children in Belgrade.
Djelic said at the occasion that the donation was secured from the Universiade budget, adding that this donation will provide dinners for the children at the shelter over the next six months.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Universiade also presented a photocopier to the shelter, which will make administrative work much easier. He said that the donation was in fact the fulfillment of the pledge that any funds remaining from the Universiade budget will be used for social welfare.
Djelic said that the 8,000 prefabricated accommodation units that were used by the students participating in the Universiade are now being dismantled and moved, to be rebuilt as student housing. He said that there are 380 children currently at the shelter, adding that the biggest problem is that these children do not have personal identification numbers and because of this they cannot enter the formal education system. Djelic said that administrators at the shelter are working on resolving this problem.
