Jeremic told Belgrade daily Danas that he hopes a consensus opinion for joining the EU will be established soon, just as a consensus regarding Kosovo-Metohija was reached.
Jeremic said that diplomatic efforts to overcome the Netherland’s stance on Serbia’s EU integration have almost been exhausted
I hope that in the very near future all 27 members of the Council of the EU will reach agreement and thus speed up the process of Serbia’s integration into the Union, Jeremic stated.
He also said that the issue of Kosovo's status will be open after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) gives its opinion on the legality of the unilateral declaration of the province’s independence.
Pristina will then be “cornered” and for the first time motivated to seek a compromise concerning the province's status, the Minister said.
Speaking about NATO, Jeremic said that Serbia's membership of NATO is not a matter for discussion.
By a large majority the Serbian parliament adopted a decision for Serbia to be militarily neutral. I do not expect that a revision of the state’s policy on that issue could happen any time soon, said Jeremic.
