State Secretary at the Health Ministry Tomislav Stantic told the press conference that the Japanese government is Serbia’s top donor, stressing that it is clear that Japan appreciates the Serbian government’s intention to decentralize the health system as well as the fact that health centres play a major role in that process.
Tsunozaki said that this is the Japanese government’s first donation to Nova Varos, specifying that the donation consists of medical equipment and ambulances equipped for mountain roads, adding that this assistance will help modernize the health services in Serbia.
He said that the Japanese government has given more than €200 million to Serbia in donations up until now and that 111 various projects have been implemented with the help of these donations, half of which were related to the health sector.
The Japanese Ambassador said that he hopes that this donation will improve medical services and also further strengthen ties between Japan and Serbia.
Including this donation, the total Japanese aid since 1999 to Serbia, through Japan’s Basic Human Needs Cooperation projects, stands at more than €6.2 million, while the total Japanese economic assistance to Serbia since then stands at nearly €198.2 million.
These donations are made to support social development through projects related to basic human needs.
