At a press conference, held to present the results of two telephone surveys that were conducted on July 16 and 17 to get feedback from the public regarding the event, Djelic said that of the 1,000 people surveyed 90% said that the Universiade was a great triumph and that it will have a positive affect on Serbia’s international image.
Djelic said that the percentage of satisfied people in Belgrade is a little higher, adding that two thirds of the people in Belgrade watched the Universiade, while 2.7 million people throughout Serbia watched the opening and closing ceremonies, which were most highly praised by the people surveyed.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that he is pleased with the fact that Serbia was able to organise and hold the Universiade 2009, which is the largest sporting event in the world after the Summer Olympics.
He said that the 6,000 Universiade participants who were also surveyed were highly satisfied with the organisation of the event.
Djelic stressed that a report on the Universiade will be presented and approved at a government session in August, adding that the event did not go over budget.
He said that university sport funding will be reorganised, adding that currently only 2% is set aside from the budget for school and university sport.
