Council for Improving the Position of the Roma marks first year of work

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic, who also chaired the session of the Council for Improving the Position of the Roma, said that a report on their activities for 2008 has been submitted.
Serbia presided over the Decade of the Roma from June 2008 until July 2009, when Slovakia took over.
The Serbian presidency was very successful and resulted in progress in priority areas.
The work on implementation of these activities needs to continue and Serbia will continue to play an active role in the work of this organization.
The adoption of the strategy for the improvement of the Roma’s position and an action plan for its implementation for the period 2009-2011 are marked as achievements.
Serbia set aside RSD 526 million for the implementation of this plan in 2009.
It was also agreed to form working groups in the relevant ministries in charge of implementing measures from the action plan and coordinating and planning future activities.
