Bradic said at a press conference in Palic that his Ministry not only supports the Festival as one of the cultural events it co-finances on a regular basis, but is also proud of the fact that the Festival is committed to promoting Serbian culture and establishing links with European cinema.
He stressed the importance of intercultural dialogue and the opportunity the Festival provides to young artists to interact with established film makers.
The media of film is suited to a variety of cultural expressions and is a great way of communicating ideas, said the Minister.
He said that artistic creativity requires freedom of expression, adding that the Ministry of Culture does not set any borders regarding the matter.
Speaking about the new law on culture, which is currently being examined by parliament, Bradic said that it will serve as a good basis for encouraging artists and will oblige institutions to support good projects.
This year cultural activities have been hampered by the economic crisis but the state is making efforts to support projects that have produced good results, said Bradic.
He said that the Palic Festival is also important because of its mission of decentralization.
Mayor of Subotica Sasa Vucinic stressed that the city of Subotica is a record holder regarding the allocation of funds for culture, having set aside 13% of its budget for this purpose.
The Palic film festival is the crowning event of the city’s cultural activities and also has a special place at provincial and national levels.
He said that the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development has allotted RSD 45 million for the reconstruction of the Velika Terasa facility.
It is expected that work will finish as early as next year and we will acquire a new hall in the building, which will be used as an alternative venue for the summer theatre in case of bad weather, said the Mayor.
Festival Director Radoslav Zelenovic and Director of the Subotica Open University Blazo Perovic said that infrastructure in Palic must be improved in order to further advance the Festival.
British director Ken Russell, this year’s recipient of the Aleksandar Lifka Award for contribution to European filmmaking, opened the 16th European film festival in Palic on July 18.
