Serbia, Baden-Württemberg to sign cooperation protocol

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic and Wolfgang Reinhardt, Minister for Federal and European Affairs of the German province of Baden-Württemberg today signed a protocol concerning security, economic, education, tourism and cultural cooperation.

Speaking at a press conference, Djelic said that Serbia wants to establish close cooperation with Baden-Württemberg concerning security and the fight against organised crime and corruption.

The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister said that cooperation will also cover the EU’s strategy for the Danube, initiated by Baden-Württemberg.

Serbia will contribute to the designing of this strategy. It is expected that the strategy will be adopted during Hungary’s EU presidency in the first half of 2011, said Djelic.

He said that Baden-Württemberg’s State Secretary for science is expected to visit Serbia at the end of September.

He said that last year Serbia and Baden-Württemberg increased trade by 40%.

Serbia imported goods worth €150 million and exported goods worth €100 million, which shows that economic cooperation is fairly well balanced, said Djelic.

Günther Oettinger, Minister President of Baden-Württemberg said that security should be one of the main subjects of discussion for the committee in charge of cooperation between Serbia and the province.

He said that he expects that cooperation between the two governments will produce concrete results in the near future.

The first session of the joint committee in charge of cooperation between Serbia and Baden-Württemberg was held today.
