Nine Serbs killed, eight injured in Egypt

Political director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Borislav Stefanovic stated that according to unconfirmed information, nine Serbian citizens were killed and eight injured in a traffic accident in Egypt.

Stefanovic told a press conference that yesterday’s traffic accident on the road from Hurghada to Luxor in Egypt claimed the lives of the bus driver and the tourist agency’s representative
We are monitoring the situation, cooperating with the Egyptian authorities and trying to obtain valid information on the number, names and ages of the deceased, he said, adding that the majority of the injured have been transported to the Cairo Hospital.
It has been established that the bus crashed into a tow truck whose driver caused the accident by driving in the wrong lane.
Stefanovic said there were children on the bus but could not confirm whether they are amongst the dead.
On behalf of the Ministry he voiced his regret to their families for not yet being able to provide valid, confirmed, official information on the names and number of the dead and injured.
Our consulate is working 24 hours a day to provide the necessary information, he specified.
Representatives from the Serbian embassy in Egypt arrived in Hurghada to offer assistance to their compatriots, Stefanovic said, adding that the Ministry has dispatched a special consular team to take care of Serbian citizens and prepare prompt transportation of the bodies.
