Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic stated that the Serbian government is making efforts for visa liberalisation to come into effect from January 1, 2010.
Speaking as a guest of TV B92 yesterday, Djelic said that Security Council Resolution 1244 does not allow the presence of the Serbian Interior Ministry in Kosovo, because of which special procedures must be put in place for the issuing of passports to citizens resident in the province.
He stressed that the rest depends on the decision of Schengen countries who will issue these visas and their decision cannot be in opposition to the stance taken by countries that do not recognise Kosovo. This means that there is no cause for concern that any EU decision will imply recognition of Kosovo.
