Germany supports Serbia’s visa liberalisation, unblocking of SAA

Following a meeting with Gunther Krichbaum, the Chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on the Affairs of the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated that Germany strongly supports Serbia’s EU integration and visa liberalization.

In a statement to the press, Djelic pointed to the importance of the fact that Germany, as the largest country in the Schengen zone, advocates the abolition of visas for Serbian citizens by the end of this year.

Krichbaum said he expects the Transitional Trade Agreement to be implemented as soon as possible and voiced his belief that all the EU member states will reach a consensus regarding Serbia’s inclusion in the Schengen ‘white list’.

Germany fully supports the removal of visa restrictions for Serbia by the end of this year and is in favour of beginning the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) as soon as possible, said Krichbaum.

He said that he is convinced that Germany’s efforts will help remove the obstacles to visa liberalisation.

Krichbaum said that it is very important for Serbia and Germany to deepen cooperation in the area of higher education, to step up cooperation between cities and to create conditions for increased civil society contacts.

Serbia’s path to the EU will help the country move forward and will be of benefit to all Serbian citizens, concluded Krichbaum.
