FISU President George Killian said at a press conference that he is optimistic, adding that there is no reason for concerns that there might be any major problems during the event.
We will have a wonderful Universiade. I guarantee you that, said Killian. He said that there are some minor troubles but that that is to be expected at events of this scale.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and head of the Universiade organising committee Bozidar Djelic said that it was not easy to make preparations for holding such a huge event during an ongoing economic crisis but FISU was very cooperative concerning the problems faced by Belgrade.
He said that a sum of €7 million has been saved by moving the opening ceremony from the Red Star Stadium to the Belgrade Arena, a change made in agreement with FISU.
Djelic stressed that delegations and athletes had no objections and that they are happy with the reception, accommodation, sporting and training facilities, as well as with food.
He said that RSD 4.5 billion was invested in Universiade this year, noting that two-thirds will be left as legacy to Serbia.
After the Universiade, the furniture from Belville will be given to student centres, he announced.
Assistant Mayor of Belgrade Radmila Hrustanovic said that there is not a single problem that could jeopardize the organization of the 25th Universiade.
Universiade will open on July 1 at 8 pm in the Belgrade Arena and will last until July 12.
