Serbia prepared for Universiade

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and Head of the Universiade Organising Committee Bozidar Djelic today stated that Serbia is ready for the 25th Summer Universiade.
Following a session of the Organising Committee, Djelic said that since October 2008 the committee has been working hard on preparing the world’s second largest sporting event.
He noted that the fact that the organisation of such a huge event has been entrusted to Serbia is of great importance for our country.
In these times of crisis the Serbian government has managed to revise the state budget and to meet all the Universiade criteria, he stressed.
The Minister pointed out that all sports halls are ready for the Universiade, adding that work on the Marakana football stadium will be completed in two to three days, so that Belgrade will be the only city in the Balkans to have an Olympic standard athletic track.
Djelic said that sports federations will receive RSD 300 million for organising the event, specifying that two thirds of the total budget for the Universiade, amounting to RSD 4.5 billion, will consist of permanent investments for the country.
He said that maximum security measures are in place and in cooperation with the Health Ministry procedures have been set in place for minimizing the risk of the possible emergence of the A H1N1 Influenza virus.
The organising committee session was also attended by Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic, Minister of Trade and Services Slobodan Milosavljevic, Minister of Education Zarko Obradovic and Rector of the University of Belgrade Branko Kovacevic.
A ceremony was held after the session to open the University Village.
