Another passport issuance machine to be installed soon

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic announced that another passport issuance machine will be installed soon, thanks to which capacity will be increased by 50%.

Dacic said that the two existing machines, with the capability of issuing 4,000 passports per week, currently issue around 6,000 passports weekly.

The new machine will increase the number of passports issued, Dacic said, noting that visa liberalisation is expected by the year’s end and that the new biometric passports are a precondition for this.

He said that it is also important to create a secure and stable business climate in Serbia to combat the effects of the global economic crisis. Dacic stressed that the Serbian police is working on creating a secure environment through cooperation with police forces in the region, adding that cooperation with the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce is also important in this regard. The First Deputy Prime Minister said that the strategy for national security gives importance to the creation of a secure business environment in Serbia and the police must play their role in the efforts to achieve this goal. He said that the police had to do a lot of work related to the removal of visa restrictions which is expected to improve economic conditions.

He said that hopefully Serbian citizens and business-people will be able to travel to EU countries without visas, which will increase business activity.
