No discussion of Transitional Trade Agreement by EU Ministers

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated today in Brussels that EU officials did not discuss the implementation of the Transitional Trade Agreement with Serbia at its session, but they will probably consider that issue at their next meeting, to take place in July or the autumn.

Following a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and other EU officials, Minister Djelic, who is currently on a working visit to Brussels, said that EU leaders had an important task to synchronise financial reforms and prepare for the adoption of the Lisbon agreement and therefore did not have enough time to discuss the agreement with Serbia.
He noted that Holland still strongly maintains its stance that the Transitional Trade Agreement with Serbia should only be partially unblocked.
He expressed expectation that the question of relations with Serbia could appear on the agenda of foreign ministers in July, during Sweden’s presidency, adding that the next occasion would be in October or December.
In the meantime, Belgrade will do everything to assure Holland that the trade agreement should be implemented, he said.
Djelic stressed that Serbia is doing everything to fully cooperate with the Hague tribunal and trying to find the two remaining Hague fugitives.
