European Commission to prepare proposal on visa liberalisation by end July

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic said today in Brussels that Commission Vice President responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security Jacques Barrot reassured him that the European Commission will prepare a proposal on the legal framework for visa liberalisation for Western Balkan countries.

Djelic told the press after a meeting with Barrot that following on from the proposal a decision will be made about removing visa restrictions during the autumn.
He said that Barrot was satisfied with Serbia’s progress regarding the fulfillment of conditions from the roadmap for visa liberalisation.
According to Djelic, Barrot said that he is familiar with all the laws related to visa abolition that Serbia has adopted but noted that these laws still need to be carried out.
Speaking about the two-day summit of heads of states and governments of EU countries in Brussels, Djelic expressed his satisfaction over the fact that Serbia will be the topic at such a high level.
Djelic said that he does not expect any decision relating to the Transitional Trade Agreement to be adopted because Holland has not changed its position on this issue.
