Jeremic told Blic that Serbia will be successful in institutional reform on its road to the EU and that position that Serbia is cooperating fully with The Hague is of the utmost importance.
The government’s official website brings excerpts from the interview for Blic.
On the Transitional Trade Agreement:
“Diplomatic efforts to create support from the majority of EU countries for this agreement are ongoing. There is no consensus for the time being, but we will continue to work on that.”
On the positions of Holland and Belgium:
“It is of the utmost importance that 25 EU countries have no doubts about Serbia fulfilling their political prerequisites for continuing with EU integration. On the other hand, these two countries do not share the same opinion. We are doing everything we can to strengthen our arguments.”
On visa liberalisation:
“We expect a formal decision to be made in autumn, but we must not celebrate until it becomes reality.”
On the issuance of Serbian passports in Kosovo:
“All Serbian citizens are equal and all are entitled to passports. We agree that there are security problems in Kosovo. Our administrative capacity in the province is regulated by the UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Serbia was greatly pressurized not to issue passports to Kosovo citizens, which was unacceptable.”
On the UN Security Council session on Kosovo:
“Even with the process before the International Court of Justice, many countries in the world are still being pressurised regarding Kosovo recognition. We are making great efforts to resist that. Decisions confirmed in the Security Council must be respected.”
On the possibility to divide Kosovo:
“Our position remains unchanged, it is based on the Constitution and international law. At the moment we are concentrated on the process before the ICJ from which we expect to state that the proclamation of independence violated international law. This I believe will open the door to a compromise.”
On Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Serbia:
“We hope that this visit will take place by the end of the year as relations with Russia are strategically important to Serbia.”
