Djelic announces €150m loan for scientific development

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic today announced that on June 15 he will meet with the President of the European Investment Bank to discuss a €150 million loan for scientific development.

Opening the Serbian IT Olympics for primary and secondary school students, Djelic said that the funds will be used to build non-commercial flats and a campus for the Mathematical Grammar School, while €10 million will be invested in the development of supercomputers in Serbia.
He said we can be satisfied that young people from Serbia have shown great talent for computer sciences but at the same time worried that a number of them works abroad, Djelic stressed.
He also said that out of 200 engineers working on one of the largest supercomputers in the world, Mare Nostrum in Spain, 27 are from Serbia, while Microsoft’s headquarters employs 300 Serbian engineers.
He also announced that on June 29 a strategy for science and technology will be presented determining priorities in this area, adding that information technologies will be one of them.
At the Third Serbian IT Olympics 21 primary and 25 secondary school students from all over Serbia are taking part and the best students will represent Serbia at the International IT Olympics, taking place on August 5–12 in Bulgaria.
The competition was organised by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technological Development and the Serbian Association of Mathematicians.
