Serbian Assistant Minister of Health Svetlana Mijatovic said at a press conference that all those taking part in the event, which will be held from July 1 to 12, will be under medical observation for seven days prior to entering Serbia and will carry health certificates.
She explained that a special service at the Belgrade airport will verify these certificates and will work in coordination with the Military Medical Academy and other domestic and foreign services.
A special working group has been formed for this purpose in Serbia, which will work according to the guidelines presented by the Health Ministry, the national committee for protecting the public from infectious diseases and the WHO.
Mijatovic said that all teams and travel organisers will receive instructions and leaflets will also be distributed, adding that persons with respiratory problems will be quarantined while the Torlak Institute will confirm within six hours if they are infected with the H1N1 Influenza A virus or not.
Doctor Zoran Hajdukovic of the Military Medical Academy said that the hospital staff will take care directly of the health of the participants.
He said that the Military Medical Academy staff will be on duty for this purpose from June 24 to July 15 and that they will also open a clinic within the Universiade Village.
Velimir Radosavljevic, Deputy Director General of Nikola Tesla Airport, said that the airport staff will wear sanitary masks and gloves, adding that verifications will be carried out at three points, at passport control, the baggage claim area and the arrivals terminal.
He said that Belgrade airport has completed preparations and has good cooperation with inspections and customs staff, and that an agreement has been reached with Jat Airways that special discounts will be offered on prices during the Universiade.
Nearly 8,000 sportspeople from 140 countries, several foreign sports delegations, visitors, volunteers and foreign journalists are expected to arrive in Belgrade.
