Opening a new counter for issuing documents in the Novi Sad police station, Dacic said that since last April the police have increased the number of counters where citizens may submit applications for new documents from 300 to 400, introduced shift work and engaged more people.
He said that before there was insufficient technical and staff capacities for issuing new documents in Novi Sad, adding that these shortcomings have now been removed in cooperation with the city authorities.
He said that the Novi Sad Police Administration has so far issued 62,000 biometric ID cards and 57,000 biometric passports, leading to problems of overcrowding.
The Minister said he hopes that increasing the number of employees at the new location and extending work hours will make the procedure easier and appealed to the public to be patient.
Dacic stressed that the Interior Ministry will make efforts to increase the number of counters for issuing personal documents in all larger municipalities, adding that the Ministry will get funds from the state for that purpose.
