“Technical Support to Emergency Services in Serbia” project to start today

Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic today stated that the implementation of the project “Technical Support to Emergency Services in Serbia”, worth €10 million, will start today.

At a press conference Milosavljevic said that the project, financed by the EU, will help the Health Ministry to synchronise Serbia’s emergency services to EU standards.
He pointed out that the project implies the introduction of the 112 emergency phone number, which is used across the EU, as well as the adoption of new regulations to help reduce the number of patients waiting for organ transplants.
The Minister specified that the EU will donate 252 ambulances with the latest medical equipment, in accordance to EU standards, and equipment for educating medical staff.
The project is one of the three health system projects financed from EU pre-accession funds, explained Milosavljevic, adding that the two remaining projects concern the fight against various kinds of addiction and medical waste management.
Project manager Alfred Kaf, who is also representing the European Commission in Serbia, recalled that since 2000, the EU has set aside more than €120 million for the Serbian health system.
