At a press conference held at the Serbian government building, Djelic said that the projects for purifying exhaust gases from the thermo electric power plant Nikola Tesla and solving the problem of Belgrade’s wastewater are worth €400 million.
The Minister explained that the Japanese government will provide loans under very favourable conditions, with an interest rate from 0.6% to 1.7%, repayment period from 15 to 25 years and 5 to 7 years of grace period.
Djelic and Nishimura also discussed visa liberalisation for Serbian citizens and the attraction of Japanese investors to Serbia.
Nishimura said that the Japanese government will soon send a mission to Serbia to consider the possibility of providing the two loans, as well as further investing in the Serbian economy.
He noted that Serbia may become an interesting destination for Japanese tourists.
Representatives from the municipality of Obrenovac, the electric power industry Elektroprivreda Srbije and communal enterprises concluded that the implementation of the two projects would considerably improve the ecological situation in Belgrade and Obrenovac.
Since October 5, 2000 the Japanese government has donated around €200 million to Serbia.
