Serbia, Baden-Württemberg to boost police cooperation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg Heribert Rech today concluded that police cooperation between the two sides has been excellent, but there is still room for improvement.

At a joint press conference Dacic pointed out that the Serbian and Baden-Württemberg police have done a lot concerning the fight against organised crime, drug trade, stolen car trade, illegal migration and human trafficking.

Minister Dacic gave his appreciation to the German government and the police for their assistance, recalling that Germany has helped modernise the Serbian police.

Dacic also recalled that the two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation and announced the signing of a protocol on readmission and a police cooperation agreement between Serbia and Germany.

Minister Dacic pointed to the importance of Germany’s stance regarding visa liberalisation and thanked the German government for supporting Serbia’s EU integration.

Serbia and the EU signed a framework agreement on readmission, which has been ratified by the Serbian parliament, said Dacic, adding that it is necessary to sign bilateral protocols with EU countries.

Dacic said that signing bilateral protocols concerning the implementation of readmission is one of the most important conditions for visa liberalisation, adding that these agreements will also be signed with France, Slovenia and a number of other EU countries.

He stressed that maximum security measures will be put in place during US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Belgrade.

Dacic once again appealed to the public to be tolerant of police activities, which includes closing down certain roads for traffic, during Biden’s visit,.

Rech confirmed that cooperation between Serbia and Baden-Württemberg is good and that both sides are interested in intensifying it.

He said that some 100,000 Serbian citizens live in Baden-Württemberg, adding that not a single Serbian citizen was found to be involved in any case of organised crime.
