First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic stated that the aim of the proposed law on road safety is not to introduce draconian fines and sanctions for citizens, but to create better conditions for road safety.

Dacic told news agency Beta that the proposed bill is on the parliamentary agenda and is concerned with prevention, a different approach to training, examinations and a different social responsibility concerning behaviour on the roads.
The Minister said that 800 to 900 people get killed on roads every year in Serbia, noting that 17,000 people have been killed in traffic accidents in Serbia since 1991.
He added that the law was drafted by the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Infrastructure and experts.
Dacic also said that not only drivers are accountable for traffic safety but also the state and announced the formation of a traffic safety agency.
