Djelic, Lloveras symbolically open European Street

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic and Head of the European Commission delegation to Belgrade Josep Lloveras symbolically opened the European Street in Knez Mihailova Street in Belgrade thus marking Europe Day.

Djelic said that the strategic route of Serbia’s EU entry remains unchanged, adding that there are at least three reasons for that.
The first is ensuring new freedoms for our citizens, the second Serbia’s entry in the Schengen ‘white list’ and the third the fact that the EU will ensure economic and financial stability, explained the Deputy Prime Minister.
He said Serbia will strive to unfreeze the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), adding that Serbia loses €5 million a month because of the unilateral implementation of this agreement but at the same time saves €35 million because the EU opened its borders to Serbian exporters.
Lloveras said that as head of the European Commission delegation in Serbia he wishes to share the joy of celebrating Europe Day with all Serbian citizens, which is why Knez Mihailova Street has been renamed European Street for one day.
He explained that EU integration is the best way for Serbia to overcome the current global economic crisis.
Following the opening of the European Street, Djelic and Lloveras visited stands where EU members were presented and talked with citizens. Afterwards they visited an exhibition on UNESCO sites in south-eastern Europe at the Austrian Cultural Forum.
