Artur Takac Memorial Tournament

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic today headed a session of the organising committee of the 4th Belgrade International Athletics Tournament, the Artur Takac Memorial Tournament, which will be held on May 29 at the Partizan Stadium.

Dacic said that the event will be a good opportunity for Serbian athletes and for promoting Serbia, adding that it is a great honour for him to head the organising committee.
He stressed that the organising committee will strive to keep expenses down while organising the event, because of the economic crisis.
The Minister recalled that last year this tournament in Belgrade was watched by some 40 million people across the world, adding that he hopes that the event will be as successful this year.
Director of the tournament Dragan Zivotic stressed that it is expected that more than 150 athletes from 49 countries will take part in the event.
Zivotic said that in agreement with Head of the Serbian Olympic Committee Vlade Divac, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee Lord Sebastian Coe has been contacted and invited to be a promoter for the Artur Takac tournament.
He said that he hopes that Coe will accept the invitation and also expressed his gratitude to Coe on behalf of the Serbian government for his help in orgnising the tournament.
Artur Takac’s son Goran Takac said that he feels proud of his city, government and country.
Such an event can do a lot to bring sport out of crisis, said Goran Takac. He quoted his father who used to say that athletics is the “queen of sports” and commented that this is proved by this tournament.
He pointed out that a special event will be held at the tournament to draw children to sport.
The 4th Belgrade international athletics tournament will be organised under the auspices of the government and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.
