Serbia ready for visa liberalisation

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today in Prague that Serbia is ready for the expected visa liberalisation for EU countries.

Addressing the ministerial conference “Building Migration Partnerships” in Prague, Dacic said the approach that would mainly consider the security aspects of migrations is wrong.
Naturally, security issues are of top priority for our governments, but, people have a natural need to move, and all superficial boundaries set before them are destined to fail. These barriers result in more illegal migrations and the services of organised criminal groups, he stressed.
Dacic warned that, in practice, it is very difficult to draw a line between regular and irregular migrations.
He said that Serbia is ready to continue and improve the dialogue on migration with all its partners.
The government of Serbia is ready to implement all the conclusions drawn from this conference and support the ministerial declaration, Dacic said.
Over the past two decades Serbia has faced a series of migrations that strongly affected its economic resources, demography, security and overall social and cultural milieu, he said.
Thousands of young people, many of whom with great academic and professional potential deserted the country in the 1990s in a quest for a better life, escaping from the social and economic crisis in the former Yugoslavia. At the same time, several hundred thousand people found refuge in Serbia escaping from wars in the region, Dacic said.
The Prague conference is being attended by over 40 representatives of interior ministries.
