Visa free travel by end of year

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today in Prague that it can be said with a great deal of certainty that Serbian citizens will be able to travel without visas to EU countries by the end of this year.
Dacic, who is participating in the ministerial conference “Building Migration Partnerships” in Prague, said to Tanjug news agency that all EU interior ministers and officials are unified in their support for Serbia and their countries will support the removal of visa restrictions.
Dacic said that it can be expected that the European Commission’s expert mission will present its report regarding the matter in May.
We have very realistic goals and plans and we are working together with the European Commission, this is why it can be said with a great degree of certainty that Serbian citizens will be able to travel to EU countries without visas very soon, said Dacic.
After holding several bilateral meetings during the first day of his visit to Prague, Dacic said that it is assessed that almost all the countries that are taking part in the conference support the removal of visa restrictions for Serbian citizens and Serbia’s EU integration.
This was also stressed at the meetings with the interior ministers of the Czech Republic, Finland, Portugal and Luxembourg, said Dacic, adding that later today he will meet with the interior ministers of Italy and Germany.
Dacic said that it is expected that 46 countries taking part in the conference, which is dedicated to building partnerships on migration issues, will adopt a declaration that has been proposed at the conference.
This is very important for Serbia considering the fact that this is one of the issues central to fulfilling the conditions put forth in the road map for EU visa liberalisation and will be of great importance to the EU while making a decision regarding the removal of visa restrictions for Serbian citizens, said Dacic.
Dacic said that it is expected that the Vice-President of the European Commission will also take part in the conference tomorrow, with whom he will talk about the further plans and activities of Serbia and the European Commission related to the process of visa liberalisation.
He said that a meeting with the Swedish Immigration Minister will be held tomorrow.
The conference is being attended by a large number of interior, immigration and EU integration ministers.
