Minister of Finance Diana Dragutinovic said in an interview with the Politika daily that Serbia needs stable sources of revenues, which means a reform whose goal would be to distribute the tax burden in a wide and just way.
Dragutinovic stated that people need to understand that taxes supporting public finances are their civil duty.
All Serbian government ministers were aware that the budget revision is necessary and that the state needed to cut its costs for public spending to be on a sustainable level, she explained.
Asked whether the budget revision was anonymously supported by the ministers, she said that no one was against, which does not mean that everyone was happy.
Dragutinovic announced that Serbia will start negotiations on loans with Russia in May.
China also showed interest in granting a $200 million soft loan, Dragutinovic said.
The reduction of public spending is the beginning of public sector reform, she said and stressed that the next step will be to change tax laws while strengthening control at the same time.
