Dacic said that the first results of the investigation show that the gun that killed Grandic belonged to a criminal gang from Valjevo .
He said that a shot at a police officer is a shot at the state and that this is the latest warning that crime is the biggest evil eating up society.
Dacic called on all factors within the state and society to help the police fight against organised crime.
The Minister said that he will do everything possible for Grandic’s death not to be in vain, as no one in this country can be stronger than the state.
Dacic said that since the early 1990s to now, some 1,000 police officers have lost their lives and suggested the erection of at least one monument dedicated to all police officers who lost their lives on duty.
Grandic succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning in the Vojvodina Clinical Centre from wounds received the previous night when four armed robbers shot at him on the Belgrade-Novi Sad motorway, the Minister said.
Dacic said that Grandic was the son of a police officer who was also killed on duty in 1986.
Grandic’s commander, Zeljko Cavic, said that Grandic was enthusiastic at work and a model police officer.
Grandic will be laid to rest at the Novi Sad new cemetery at 5 pm today.
