Dacic, Cooper discuss participation of Serbian police in EU peacekeeping missions

Following a meeting with Director General of the EU Council General Secretariat Robert Cooper, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic stated that the participation of Serbian policemen in EU peacekeeping mission will be discussed over the next several weeks.

Dacic, participating in a seminar ''Visas and Border Management” taking place at the European Parliament, told the Tanjug news agency that today’s meeting with Cooper is only a continuation of negotiations that started a month ago.
He stressed that the Serbian Interior Ministry believes that the Serbian police force is very skilled, professional and capable of participating in EU peacekeeping missions all over the world.
Dacic said this is important for the positioning of the Serbian police and strengthening their role in international relations.
He noted that, in that sense, a previous agreement has once again been confirmed, namely that all preparations and technical talks be carried out in the next several weeks in order to close arrangements regarding Serbia’s participation in EU peace missions.
The Deputy Prime Minister said he also met with European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin, who will visit Belgrade next week, adding that during the meeting Kacin noted that Serbia should continue on its EU road, stressing that he advocates speedier visa liberalisation for Serbian citizens.
Dacic also met today with President of the European Socialist Party caucus in the European Parliament Hans Svoboda.
