Djelic hands over Universiade flag to Everest 2009 expedition

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and head of the Universiade Belgrade 2009 organizing committee Bozidar Djelic handed over the Universiade flag today to the representatives of the mountaineering expedition Everest 2009, which they will carry with them up Mount Everest.
Handing over the flag to team leader Dragan Jacimovic, Djelic said that the Universiade flag will be returned from the roof of the world to Belgrade and will be exhibited at the opening of the event, which will be held at the beginning of July and is expected to gather some 10,000 sports-people from 140 countries.
On behalf of the Serbian government, Djelic wished success, health and a safe journey to the seven members of the team, which includes two women.
Djelic said that Serbia is a nation known for sport, adding that he hopes that the expedition will be positive and will produce top results.
Jacimovic, who is going to Everest for the third time, said that conquering the highest peak in the world is the crowning achievement in the career of any alpine mountaineer.
