EU to support Serbian budget with IPA funds

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated today that the EU has decided to set aside funds from the IPA programme, as well as from their funds for macrofinancial assistance.
Djelic, who is on a three-day visit to Brussels, said that European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquín Almunia informed him about this decision.
He explained that the EU decided to grant IPA funds to Serbia for the first time, in order to offer macroeconomic support to the Serbian government.
The exact amount of the total support will be established later, he said, noting that the funds will be used to even out the deficit in the state budget, which came as a result of the global economic crisis.
