Recognition of Kosovo continuation of aggression against Serbia

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said that Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence and its recognition by certain countries is a continuation of the aggression and pressure against Serbia which was exercised by NATO in the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999.

Dacic, who on behalf of the Serbian government attended today a two day conference titled “NATO Aggression on Yugoslavia – ten years later”, said at the occasion that the bombing of Serbia took place without Security Council backing and was a violation of the UN Charter, the Charter of Paris, the OSCE Final Act and the basic principles of international law.

He said today we have a similar situation where certain countries have recognized Kosovo without Security Council backing on the issue.

Dacic said that several thousand civilians, military personnel and members of the police force were killed in the NATO bombing, stressing that members of the armed and police forces were also innocent victims because they died defending their country.

He explained that Serbia was bombed without the UN Security Council’s permission and therefore the NATO aggression was a huge crime.

Dacic recalled that the NATO bombing has led to a large number of victims, a lot of destruction and the unilaterally declared Kosovo independence, adding that Serbia could still feel its consequences, particularly when it comes to its relations with the international community.

The Minister pointed out that this kind of aggression has been repeated several times all over the world.

Dacic said that today we honour all victims but owe more than that to their families, noting that the state and society must help the families of those who gave their lives to defend their homeland.

Dacic said this must never be forgotten and should never be repeated.

The two-day conference in the Sava Centre was organised by the Forum for a Just World and the Army Club of Generals and Admirals.

The opening was attended by Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Skundric, Head of the former Yugoslav War Cabinet Momir Bulatovic, President of the World Peace Movement Sokoro Gomes and representatives of several embassies, including Russian Ambassador Alexander Konuzin.
