President of the Management Board of the Serbian and Montenegrin Flight Control Agency Nikola Stankov and Sales Director of the Thales Air Systems S.A. company Francine Lagache signed the agreement, which will be financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Serbian and Montenegrin Flight Control Agency.
Following the signing of the agreement, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic stated that Serbia and Montenegro are now part of the EU flight control system.
He noted that Serbia will be able to fulfil all preconditions of the Single European Sky strategy, adding that this will also enable Serbian citizens to easily book cheap flights.
Djelic said that Serbia and Montenegro will soon have a key role regarding air traffic security in the region, adding that the agreement will also improve relations between Serbia, Montenegro and France.
Stankov said that the agreement envisages the provision of a data processing system, radio navigation, radar and telecommunications equipment.
Stankov said that the equipment will modernize the Agency, adding that modernization is planned to take place in the first quarter of 2011.
He said that this will improve safety systems and the flight control system will meet standards set forth in the Single European Sky strategy and have a key role regarding air traffic security in the region.
Montenegrin Transport Minister Andrija Lompar said that the Montenegrin government will offer all necessary support to the Agency to make it one of the best in the region.
Sales Director of the company Thales Air Systems Francine Lagache said that he is pleased that the company will cooperate with the Serbian and Montenegrin Flight Control Agency.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Civil Aviation Directorate.
The purchase procedure was carried out in accordance with the terms and conditions of a transparent and international EBRD procedure.
