Addressing a press conference Kalanovic said that if the funds are spent effectively Serbia could move forward in 2009, which will be a difficult year.
She said that the number of projects is significantly smaller this year partially because of a restrictive budget but this is also a result of the Ministry’s efforts to reduce the number of projects to make project supervision more efficient.
She said that the NIP’s strategic priorities are infrastructure development, improvement of living standards, more efficiency in public administration and work on human resources.
She stressed that infrastructure development will be the top priority, adding that this year projects are categorised according to their national, regional and local importance.
She explained that national projects include construction on Corridor 10, infrastructure for the development of the car industry in Kragujevac and investment in the 40 most underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia.
She said that regional projects include renovation of transport, utility and energy infrastructure while local projects will focus on the development of infrastructure in underdeveloped municipalities.
She stressed that unfinished projects from the previous year which require a small amount of funds for completion will have priority.
