Security situation in Vojvodina satisfactory

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and President of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Bojan Pajtic stated today in Novi Sad that the security situation in the province is stable and interethnic relations are good.
After holding talks with Pajtic, Dacic said that there were fewer ethnically motivated incidents of crime and misconduct in Vojvodina last year than in the previous period, adding that a third of the total incidents of crime in Serbia take place in Vojvodina.
He said that the political and security situation in Vojovodina is of extraordinary importance because it is inhabited by people belonging to various ethnic groups, stressing that the police are capable of dealing with any attempts at disturbing public peace and order, particularly acts that violate minority rights.
The possibility of improving police work and providing better equipment to police in the province was also discussed at the meeting, said Dacic.
He said that the Corridor 10 highway will be under video surveillance in order to prevent traffic accidents and regional centres for ballistics, fingerprint databases and other records will also be opened.
The Interior Minister recalled that 80,000 new passports have already been issued in Vojvodina and invited citizens to apply for new documents as soon as possible.
Dacic, Pajtic and representatives from several Banat municipalities discussed the ways to enable people who live near the border to cross it more easily, as some Romanian companies have shown an interest in employing Serbian citizens.
Minister Dacic noted that Serbian and Bulgarian representatives have already begun talks on cross-border cooperation, which would enable Bulgarian citizens to enter Serbia without passports and Serbian citizens to enter Bulgaria without visas.
Serbia will initiate negotiations in this respect with another two EU members states, Hungary and Romania, said Dacic.
Pajtic stressed that if negotiations with Romania finish successfully, thousands of Serbian citizens, living near the border, will be able to find a job in this neighbouring country.
He pointed out that Novi Sad will set aside around RSD 500 million for video surveillance and enhancement of security, adding that other local self-governments in Vojvodina will do the same.
