In an interview to the BBC on the eve of the first anniversary of Kosovo’s unilateral proclamation of independence, Jeremic reiterated that the issues of Kosovo’s future status and Serbia’s EU accession are two separate processes, underlining that this is the official policy of both Belgrade and Brussels.
He said that five EU members have not recognised the province’s independence and judging by the statements coming from these countries, they do not intend to do that in the future.
Jeremic stressed that Serbia is using only peaceful and legal means to solve the Kosovo issue, recalling that it has asked the International Court of Justice for opinion on the legality of the province’s independence.
Asked about cooperation with the Hague tribunal and arrest of Ratko Mladic, the Minister replied that the government is doing its best to arrest the two remaining Hague indictees, i.e. Mladic and Goran Hadzic.
He stressed that Serbia will keep trying to locate, take in and extradite the two indictees and thus close this chapter of its history for good.
