In an interview with the Beta news agency, Mrkonjic said that the government has already provided funds for the reconstruction of Batajnica–Golubinci and Gilje–Cuprija railways, the completion of Novi Sad railway junction and the electrification of Nis–Dimitrovgrad railway section.
He said that Serbia will obtain foreign loans for all railway projects planned for this year, except Prokop railway station, funds for which will be earmarked from domestic sources.
The Minister recalled that 90% of Prokop has already been constructed, adding that the government should invest another €20 million for its completion.
Mrkonjic added that there is a possibility that foreign investors provide funds for its completion and then build their own objects there.
The project also envisages a commercial centre, which will span 120,000 square metres, said the Minister.
According to Mrkonjic, the modernisation of railway Corridor 10 may be completed in 7 – 8 years and the overall investment will be worth €4.6 billion, €1.1 billion of which will be invested in the first for years.
He pointed out that this investment will provide railways with two lines, which will support trains moving 160 km/h.
