Goran Petkovic
Speaking at a press conference Petkovic said that this step is being taken according to the decree on the distribution of funds for incentive loans that was passed by the government at its session last week.
He explained that these soft loans are once again being offered on very affordable terms, with a one year grace period and a 1% annual interest rate.
Petkovic said that the issuance of these loans began last year and in some cases the results are already visible, such as the hotel in Sombor and the villa in Leskovac, which are now working.
He called on all interested entrepreneurs, tourism companies and registered farms to prepare and submit their projects for using these loans.
He said that it is expected that a new tourism law will be passed this year that will make a few small but very important changes, making the process of registering a tourism agency simple and fast.
Petkovic said that work on drafting three master plans is also near completion, adding that these plans will present estimations, possibilities and tourism development plans for Besna Kobila, Fruska Gora and Kopaonik.
Speaking about tourism in Serbia in 2008, he said that it was a year of struggle to maintain current trends.
He said that the tourism industry did well in the previous year, despite a number of problems which occurred at the beginning and end of the year, adding that the number of tourists remained the same as was in 2007 and there were 6.89 million overnight stays.
He said that foreign currency receipts from tourism in the first 11 months of 2008 were $874 million, which is 11% more when compared the same period during 2007.
