Serbian Minister for the National Investment Plan (NIP) Verica Kalanovic said today in an interview with Blic newspaper that investment in infrastructure should be the response to the global financial crisis.
Kalanovic stressed that for this reason priorities in 2009 are the construction of the Corridor 10 highway and preparations for the Corridor 10 railway project, as well as infrastructure investments in Kragujevac, so that Fiat can begin car production from 2010.
She said that priorities also include investment in infrastructure in smaller towns to meet specific industrial needs and the continuation of the gas supply project in western Serbia.
According to Kalanovic investments in the 40 least developed municipalities must also be a priority this year.
The Minister recalled that during the past three years good results were achieved through the NIP in the areas of transport infrastructure, gas supply and economic infrastructure such as industrial zones and business incubators.
She said that projects related to utility infrastructure were also implemented during these three years, adding that the German Development Bank (KfW) provided funds for resolving water supply problems in eight municipalities.
Speaking about monitoring spending from NIP funds, Kalanovic said that all information related to all projects has been available to the public at the
website of the Ministry for the NIP since 2008.
