Speaking at a press conference held by the Ministry of Youth to mark the Volunteers Day, Samardzic-Markovic said that taking care of young volunteers means that young people must be well informed and protected from abuse.
She said that the Ministry of Youth supports various programmes by youth organisations concerning voluntary work, adding that the Volunteers Day presents a good opportunity to express gratitude to all those who have contributed to the well being of the society through volunteer work.
Special advisor to the Minister Zora Krnjajic said that most of the volunteer work is done by people in the 25 to 30 years age group and the least by those from 15 to 19 years of age, adding that very few secondary school students report for volunteer work.
The press conference was attended by deputy director of the National Employment Service Radan Ilic, director of the People’s Office of the President of Serbia Tatjana Pasic, UNICEF representative Jelena Zajeganovic-Jakovljevic, executive director of Civic Initiatives Miljenko Dereta, director of SMART Collective Neven Marinovic and young volunteers. A voluntary blood donation action was held afterwards.
