Goran Bogdanovic at today's press conference
Addressing a press conference held after the Serbian government’s session today Bogdanovic said that this means that EULEX will fully respect Security Council Resolution 1244 and Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the mission will not attempt to implement the Ahtisaari plan.
He said that EULEX will be status-neutral and act under UN auspices, explaining that the decision adopted today affirms the UN Secretary General’s six-item plan.
The Serbian government is concerned over Pristina’s rhetoric, reminiscent of March 17, 2004, stressed Jeremic. He warned that Pristina’s refusal to accept the UN Secretary General’s plan could be an excuse for new attacks on Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo.
He said that Serbian officials have warned the international community of this threat and international forces have given Serbia firm assurances that the events of March 17 will not be repeated.
The Minister pointed out that the international community has the immense responsibility and authority to provide security to all peoples living in Kosovo.
He said that he expects that the government will discuss the 2009 budget at the next session, scheduled for December 4, adding that a draft budget has not yet been prepared since the government is reconsidering expenditures because of the global financial crisis.
Bogdanovic confirmed that the government discussed the salaries of public company employees and decided to examine payment procedures. The committees that the government will form for this purpose will include government as well as company representatives and all data will be monitored by public auditors.
