Serbian Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic will participate in a conference on the subject of intercultural dialogue as the basis of peace and sustainable development in Europe and neighbouring regions, to be held from December 2 to 3 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
According to the Ministry of Culture the conference, to be jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe, is a first opportunity to examine at the ministerial level the continuation of the process of intercultural dialogue following the publication of the Council of Europe’s “White Book”, with an emphasis on the role of cultural policy in a regional and wider European context.
New Council of Europe initiatives concerning dialogues between artists and other intercultural dialogue projects will be examined as well.
The aims of the conference are to transcend stereotypical views of Islam and the West, the identification of needs in the cultural spheres of Europe and the Middle East and the recognition of the importance of cultural diversity at an international as well as local level.
The conference will conclude with the signing of a declaration on the importance of the role of culture and heritage in intercultural dialogue. During his stay in Azerbaijan Bradic will also hold bilateral meetings with culture ministers from Russia, Poland, Turkey and Ukraine.
