Tadashi Nagai, Zarko Obradovic and Rasim Ljajic
The agreement was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Belgrade Tadashi Nagai and the headmasters of the two schools, Milorad Pribak and Milinko Micovic.
Nagai told a press conference that the Japanese government will continue supporting education and improving the rights of children in Serbia through donations, adding that such assistance is aimed at maintaining good relations between Serbia and Japan.
Obradovic stressed that conditions in schools must be improved and a number of old school facilities renovated, adding that the Ministry of Education will earmark sizeable funds from its budget for these purposes.
Ljajic recalled that since 2000 Japan has donated nearly €200 million, €6 million of which was invested in projects related to citizens’ basic needs.
The aim of local action plans is to fight against poverty, improving conditions in schools and children’s health care, Ljajic explained, adding that the national action plan was made in 2004, since when 21 municipalities have created local plans.
The headmasters of the two schools, whose buildings are both over 100 years old, also thanked the Japanese government for their support.
