Djelic said that Serbia is the second country from the region to have been admitted into PRACE, which now comprises 14 members.
Djelic appreciated Spain’s assistance regarding Serbia’s admission into the PRACE, adding that its headquarters are located in Barcelona.
According to Djelic Serbia will work on the “Blue Danube” project in the following seven years, for which the government will allocate €3 million, while the rest will be provided from EU funds.
Djelic said that advanced computing networking will enable Europe to compete with the US, China and Japan.
According to him more than half of the advanced computers are dealing with economics, therefore the Institute for Physics will now be able not only to work on state and European projects, but also to reach agreements with large companies such as Airbus, IBM and Microsoft, while the most talented Serbian scientists will have an opportunity to stay in Serbia.
He said that the global economic crisis will not influence the development of sciences in serbia.
Spanish Ambassador Íñigo de Palacio España said that this is a very important day for Serbia and added that 17 Serbian scientists are working in Barcelona.
Director of the Institute for Physics Dragan Popovic said that the advanced computing initiative will be applied to infrastructure, information technologies, human resources, return of young scientists from abroad, industry, computer simulation and other areas.
